Hands up if tasks such as "Clean out junk drawer" or "Organize closets" have been on your to-do lists for longer than you'd like to admit. It's very common to want to streamline our homes and only keep what we actually use and need. And, as much as this goal is desirable, it's not often achievable as life has a tendency to get in the way of our best intentions. Your upcoming move can be a great opportunity to give your belongings the overhaul that you've been putting off!

Packing will be much easier after you clean out some junk

Take the time to get organized before you even begin the packing process. Experts recommend dividing items into three categories: keep, donate/consign, and trash. This can make it easier to keep things moving without feeling too attached to unused items. Remember that it's better for your gently used items to be put to use by someone else rather than take up space at the back of your closet. A good rule of thumb is the 6-month rule, if you don't remember using something in that time period, it's likely that you don't need it!
