How to Move in Rainy Weather

As excited as you may be about your future plans and new home, moving is very rarely a fun experience! Add on the hassle of a rainy day, and it's enough to make you want to call the whole thing off. Unfortunately, moves are typically planned far in advance, and there's no canceling due to bad weather. Follow these 3 simple tips and you'll be settled in your new digs in no time, regardless of the weather.
• Be prepared - don't let a rainy day catch you by surprise. Make sure to keep an eye on the forecast as your moving day approaches. This way you'll have all of the supplies you need ahead of time. You will also be mentally prepared to deal with the rain. Be sure that your rain gear isn't packed away, or you will be opening up all those boxes you just taped.
• Avoid cardboard as much as possible - if you are able to use plastic bins rather than cardboard boxes, try this option. Any furniture that is wrapped in blankets can be shrink wrapped for further protection. If you do use cardboard, be sure that you have figured out the shortest route from your house to the truck.
• Don't wait to unpack! Once you get to your new home, be sure to unpack as soon as possible. Any boxes that are damp or moist should be opened and emptied as soon as possible. This will help to prevent any damage to your items and allow you to get everything dried out before mildew sets in.
